Generation Y

Today's work place is very different from what it used to be few years ago. There are three generations the traditionalist, baby boomers, generation X and generation Y ( born between 1980 and 2000 ) called the Millennials. All generations have their own pros and cons and different working and motivational factors. Millennials comprise a big percentage of the work force. They are more empowered, with distinct identity and innovative ideas. They are young, energetic and ready to change the world. They are less experienced than gen x but ready to experiment and take risks.

Employers need to understand Millennials or else they leave. They want recognition for good work. They convey their problems to the top officials and have very good communication. They have good interpersonal skills and are very confident in what ever they do. They are ready to take leadership roles and are ready to work with diverse work force. They enjoy doing team work, ready to travel and expect an extra attention. Gen Y is innovative. They have great access to technology and are ready to adapt to the new environment. They visit social networking websites and keep their knowledge updated, update them selves on twitter. They party and makes lots of friends.

Employers need to take care to keep Gen Y working. They are -

1)Give them assignments which match their capability and are challenging. They suffer from boredom very easily and are dissatisfied doing monotonous work.
2)New policies need to be advocated to satisfy their needs.
3)They are skilled and ready to learn. They should be provided with good career options along with work to avoid employee attrition.
4)Provide them with proper work guidance and training.

Millennials believe in results and has the ability to work round the clock.
